The Story is owned and operated by the Michigan Native Butterfly Farm. Our private farm is located in the Oak Openings region of Southeast Michigan and is home to more than 50 indigenous butterfly species, including those we offer for special occasion releases.

Our most popular butterfly species for release are the Monarchs and Painted Ladies. We also raise Eastern Black Swallowtails, American Painted Ladies, Red Admirals, and Mourning Cloaks for release throughout the United States. Contact us for more information.

The USDA limits the species of butterflies that can be shipped across state lines. Please check to see which can be released in your state by visiting the Association for Butterflies’ USDA-APHIS-PPQ Butterfly Environmental Release Decision Chart.

Our sister company, Butterfly Gardens to Go, specializes in plants such as milkweed and flowers for nectar that can be used to create supportive butterfly habitats for the life cycle of each generation. We are committed to conservation through education and community involvement.

We are licensed nursery growers and adhere to strict guidelines for the rearing, care, and shipment of live butterflies for release. We belong to the Association for Butterflies and the International Butterfly Breeders Association.
